The Trinity doing their job

Oh shit, here we go again

3 years after the events of the first film, Bird Island is rebuilt with a brand new Slingshot System, but also the Birds and Pigs are in constant prank war against each other after Piggy Island, (which was destroyed in a prior battle with the birds, is rebuilt), By throwing pies, hot sauce and even dropping crabs onto everyone. Eventually, Leonard and Courtney discovers an ice ball that landed on Piggy Island, therefore the discovery of a third island called, Eagle Island.

Red, Chuck, and Bomb are seen cleaning up the crabs from the beach, with Red declaring this to be a job well done, and as such, Zoe, Vincent, and Samantha congratulating Red for being their hero, and they wonder off to play.

Then a letter comes from a balloon, saying that Leonard wants to have a truce with the birds, but Red thinks it's all a big scam, but Leonard sends them another letter saying that this is not trick. As such, the pigs send off their drones to discover their leader Zeta is fed up with her frozen surroundings and wants to occupy the two islands by shooting ice balls to force their inhabitants to evacuate and orders to fire another ice ball but Debbie says they can't do that because they don't have the operator.

Meanwhile, Zoe, ViVi and Sam-Sam plan to act in a play using the three eggs at a beach, but the eggs drift out to sea by accident, as such, they set sail to retrieve them, but once they catch up to them, a whale blows them into a cloud. They eventually managed to get them down after inflating Zoe into the air, and eventually into space, and as they went down, the three hatchlings land on a small island, where a Boa Constrictor is holding the eggs. They somehow defeat her, by wearing snake skin and drifts back to Bird Island, but they arrive at Piggy Island by mistake where they’re greeted by Isla, Sophie, and Oliver and they all travel by hot air balloon to go back to Bird Island.

Chuck and Bomb ask Red to join in a speed dating activity, hosted by Pinky, where they date other birds like Willow, Dahlia and Ella. Red is frustrated with this, but he meets Silver, where they argued between each other, resulting Red to storm out and goes back to his house to where Leonard visits to negotiate. Red reluctantly agrees to build an alliance with the pigs as Red recruits Bomb, with the disapproval of his mom, Chuck and Mighty Eagle. But suggests to get his sister, but warns Red not to date her, or he will break every bone in his body, so they recruit Silver and they hold a "SECRET" meeting in Mighty Eagle’s cave to talk about this mission, however when they show a photo of Zeta, Mighty Eagle behaves abnormally. The meeting is disrupted when an ice ball hits Eagle Mountain and destroys it, but they escape just in time.

As the team travels to Eagle Island by submarine, with the assistance of the tech-savy Garry, Red assures the civilians they don’t need to evacuate. Once there, Mighty Eagle confesses to the team that Zeta was his ex-fiancée that he abandoned due to his cowardice, retreating to his destroyed cave on Bird Island. Red insists on fighting alone and Silver decides to follow him, as they plan to intrude the base from the mouth of the weapon only to be captured by the guards. The other team members disguise themselves as an eagle dubbed, "Harvey", grabbed a key card in a washroom from Brad Eagleberger, and get themselves into the base. The eagle guards are driven into a breakdance battle by the disguise's unusual movement, mainly Axel, and the team finds out that Red and Silver have been caught. They are forced to escape when their disguise rips apart, but the guards are too busy dancing to notice.

As Red and Silver are confined in ice, Zeta tells them her plan to fire lava balls at Bird Island and Piggy Island, as Red regrets telling the islanders to not evacuate. After she leaves to start the countdown, Red admits to Silver that he put himself before anyone else as he's afraid of not being liked if he's no longer a hero. Silver frees them both using her hair, reuniting with the team. Red gives up leadership to Silver, who establishes a plan to destroy the weapon.

Silver and Red put themselves in an ice ball and roll on a rail towards Zeta's superweapon, but the plan comes apart and it misses the target, and the whole team are confronted by Zeta and her guards. At this time, Mighty Eagle arrives to apologize to Zeta, but she quarrels with him, revealing his name as Ethan and that she raised a daughter he was unaware of named Debbie. While Zeta is distracted, Silver tells Chuck to tie up the weapon using a powerful rope she invented, that catches and decelerates the lava balls when Zeta fires them. As the rope breaks, the hatchlings and the piglets traveling above Eagle Island help grasp it. The lava balls slide back into the weapon, destroying the whole base. Everyone escapes, and Mighty Eagle protects Debbie from being crushed by a metal plate.

Zeta shows gratitude to him and they finally hold a wedding ceremony on Bird Island, with Red as the chief witness. Everyone cheers Red for saving the islands, but he reveals Silver and the team deserves the real credit instead of him, unveiling Hero Mountain to them. To his surprise, Red finds he is beloved even more now because of his honesty and selflessness. The birds have a huge party to celebrate while Red and Silver begin a romantic relationship, until Chuck arrives and interrupts the two.

The hatchlings put the eggs back home but three snakelets hatch. The injured mother python comes and exchanges the babies with them, only for the three new hatchlings to drift out to sea again, saying goodbye to their sister.

Continuity Notes

  • Established in the first film, Terence and Matilda is in a romantic relationship, and in this film it was revealed that they are married and have kids.
  • Red was declared a Hero after he saved the eggs from the pigs, after he was treated as on outcast on Bird Island before the events of the first movie.
    • Matilda even says that Red was one of her students, also establishing something from the first movie
  • The Pigs declared revenge from the Birds from the first movie, but it is revealed it was just a prank war.
  • The Blues has a prominent appearance in this film because, as established in the first film, The Blues were hatched after the destruction of King Pig's Castle. But there is one problem with that...

Angry Birds references

  • When Silver was flipping from Bomb, she flipped like her Looping Legend power from Angry Birds 2.
    • The concept of Silver introduced in the sequel to the Angry Birds Movie, is also referencing Angry Birds 2, in which that was Silver's debut. In the sequel to the first game.
  • The concept of the Birds and Pigs working together happens rarely in the franchise as we only see it happen in games like Angry Birds Transformers, the last part of the story mode in Angry Birds Epic, Angry Birds Fight!, and even Angry Birds Islands.
  • This is the first film in which the Stella Flock has a face-to-face confrontation with the Classic Characters, but the first in the Movie style as the only other time we see that is in Angry Birds POP!
  • Zoe inflating like a balloon is a reference to Bubbles' infamous power of inflating, but she forced against her will, instead of freely doing it like Bubbles has.
  • The release of this film is in 2019, which marks Angry Birds' Tenth Anniversary

Real Life references

  • Carl was reading a book entitled "Crazy Rich Avians" which is a reference to not only the novel, but also the film entitled, Crazy Rich Asians, which Awkwafina was a part of.
  • Baby Shark was played at the Regal Eagle where Glenn was dancing to.
    • The Regal Eagle is based off of a bar from Seinfeld
  • When Zeta was giving her speech, she mentions famous rapper Ice T and Vanilla Ice Ice.
    • Vanilla Ice was also the artist who made the song "Ice Ice Baby" for the film's promotional material, mainly the teaser trailer.
  • It is a little bit of a real-life reference, but there is a Tiffany Fisher Artist video entitled "Movie Night" where a bird shouts, "Red fins his first love!", and in the film, Red finds his first love. The controversial kind...

  • For some reason, Betty is the mother of The Blues, instead of Greg and Olive from Angry Birds Blues and even established from the first film!! Why haven't they fired the person responsible to this!!!
    • On top of that, Jay has a blue floof on his head even though in the first film and even in Angry Birds Blues, he had his hairstyle be like all of the other blues, which were game accurate.
  • During one shot, Stella's eyes are green instead of Blue.
  • Most of the generics from the first film have different roles/jobs than the first film, For example, the Early Bird is now the teacher at Red J. Bird Elementary School instead of being the owner of the Early Bird's Worms stand, or the Late Riser Bird being now a waiter, instead of the owner of the Late Riser Worms Stand.
  • Multiple generics have been seen with duplicates of themselves.

A cooperative tie-in video game, The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure, has been announced and is due to be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4's PlayStation VR system on August 6th, 2019. The game takes place aboard an unidentified Piggy submarine that the main characters use to get to Eagle Island for the film's climatic confrontation.
